The Almoravid movement was a religious ideology initially based in Mauritania and southern Morocco and developped by the Sanhaja leader Yahya ibn Ibrahim (Buresi) after his return from the pilgrimage to Mecca. This ideology have spread from Mauritania and South Morocco to the north of Morocco, Spain and Algeria.
The Almoravid dynasty ruled in north Africa and Spain from 445 A.H. (1053 A.D.) to 543 A.H. (1148 A.D.). They recognized the Abbasid Caliphate (see Ibrahim) and they never claimed for the Caliphate. The Almoravids have been replaced by another dynasty, reformer of the religion, that of the Almohads.

Abu Bakr ibn `Umar (448-453 A.H./ 1087-1061 A.D.)

In 445 A.H. (1053 A.D.), the Almoravids conquered Sijilmasa (Abun-Nasar p. 81) and such dinars (Kazhrunid type) in the name of Abu Bakr were struck from 445 A.H. (1053 A.D.) to 450 A.H. (1058 A.D.). In 450 A.H., this dinar type has been replaced by the new standard for Almoravids dinars (Album p. 79). The next coin (#1.14.3.3) is an example of that new standard. Ibrahim ibn Abi Bakr, governor of Sijilmasa (465-469 A.H. / 1071-1077 A.D.)
Ibrahim ibn Abi Bakr was Abu Bakr's son and he was appointed governor of Sijilmasa by Yusuf ibn Tashfin.
He overstepped his authority and has issued coins in his own name (Messier pp. 62-63).
